Blankenship Banks Biggest Win of Career in Bad Boy 98 at Batesville

LOCUST GROVE, AR (May 18, 2013) – John Blankenship took home the biggest win of his racing career tonight at Batesville Motor Speedway. Blankenship won $20,000 by winning the Second Annual Bad Boy 98 sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, and marked the first series win for him this year. Blankenship pulled away at the end to score a convincing win over Brady Smith, Steve Francis, Billy Moyer and Jimmy Owens.

While Blankenship enjoyed the fruits of the win, Dennis Erb Jr. was left with what could have been. Erb led the first 67 laps of the race until smoke bellowed from his number 28 car forcing him pitside. Erb and Blankenship had put on a side-by-side battle for the top spot for most of the race until that point. Blankenship then ran away with the race as he went unchallenged over the last 30 laps of the event.

“I have to thank all of my crew, Tom Buckingham and everyone else, this is the biggest win we have ever had,” exclaimed Blankenship in Lucas Oil Victory Lane. “That was quite a race for the lead between Dennis and me, and then I saw smoke out of his car and I knew he was in trouble. This Rocket Chassis car has been good all year long, we have been knocking on the door for a big win like this since last year, and tonight it finally happened.”

“The track was really racy tonight,” said the winner afterwards. Blankenship started sixth in the stout field, but first had to withstand a solid challenge from Wendell Wallace early in the race. “Wendell was really good there early on until he had that flat; once he went out, we were able to stay close to Dennis with the caution flags. I have to thank all of my sponsors of course, Coal, Todd Case Trucking, Bear Cove Village, VP Fuels, Integra Shocks, and Cornett Engines.”

Smith, who won last week at LaSalle Speedway, came from seventh as he fought his way to a second finish. “Congrats to John on the win, he was gone there at the end! I couldn’t see him on the track anymore! Our car was tight early on, but as the race wore on, we got a whole lot better. Hey, this has been a solid two weeks for us. A win and a second place, we’ll take it, as we head to the Show-Me 100 next weekend.”

Francis, last August’s winner of Batesville’s biggest race, the COMP Cams Topless 100, had a solid finish in third as he held off Billy Moyer and Owens. Owens retook the championship points lead from Don O’Neal, who finished eighth.

Completing the top ten were Scott Bloomquist, Earl Pearson Jr., O’Neal, Eric Jacobsen, and Jack Sullivan.

In preliminary action, Earl Pearson Jr. set the overall time (Group A) amongst the 40 entrants, with a lap of 13.679 seconds. Bobby Pierce set the fastest time in Group B with a time of 13.738 seconds. Earl Pearson Jr., Steve Francis, Dennis Erb Jr., and Wendell Wallace won their respective heat races. Jimmy Owens and Billy Moyer Jr. won their respective B-Mains.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be back in action next weekend at the “Diamond of the Dirt Tracks”, Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO with the 21st Annual Lucas Oil “Show-Me 100” presented by Protect the Harvest. Events will get underway on Thursday, May 23rd with a complete show for the Lucas Oil MLRA late models. The LOLMDS will take to the track on Friday, May24th and Saturday, May 25th. Pearson and Erb on Front Row Saturday Night for Bad Boy 98 at Batesville

LOCUST GROVE, AR (May 17, 2013) – Four-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion, Earl Pearson Jr. and Dennis Erb Jr. will make-up the front row for Saturday Night’s Bad Boy 98 at Batesville Motor Speedway. The two veteran drivers captured wins in heats one and three during tonight’s preliminary action of the $20,000-to-win event.

Pearson was the fastest qualifier among the 40 entrants and led wire-to-wire in the first heat. He helmed the Bobby Labonte Racing, Lucas Oil Products –sponsored Longhorn Chassis Chevrolet during the heat. Current LOLMDS point’s leader, Don O’Neal slipped back to third at the start of the 12-lap race, but recovered to finish second. Other transfers from the Wiles Drives Driveshafts first heat were first-time Batesville visitor, Eddie Carrier Jr. and Chris Simpson.

In the second heat race, defending COMP Cams Topless 100 winner, Steve Francis soared to the win. Brady Smith, last week’s LOLMDS winner at LaSalle, finished second. Jared Landers finished third followed by Jesse Stovall.

Dennis Erb Jr. raced to the victory in heat three. Bobby Pierce, in his Batesville debut was running second, until he slowed and went pitside. John Blankenship rallied late to finish second. Timothy Culp earned the third spot just ahead of Tyler Reddick.

Wendell Wallace dominated the fourth heat, taking the win. Jimmy Mars and Eric Jacobsen had a fierce battle for second the entire distance, with Mars edging Jacobsen at the stripe. Hall of Famer, Billy Moyer grabbed the fourth and final transfer spot from his son late in the race. Scott Bloomquist was running second and suffered the same fate as Bobby Pierce, early in the heat.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be back in action tomorrow night, Saturday, May 18th, to close-out the Bad Boy 98 at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR. WAYCROSS, GA (May 15, 2013) – Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series heads to the deep south this weekend for the 2nd Annual Bad Boy 98, May 16^th through the 18^th at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR. This year’s event, sponsored by Bad Boy Mowers, will pay $20,000 win and $1,200 to start the feature event. Activities will get underway on Thursday night with a special open practice session. Then, on Friday night May 17th, there will be LOLMDS Hot Laps, RED BUCK Time Trials and heat races to set the starting field of the 2nd Annual Bad Boy 98. 16 year-old Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, IL comes into this weekend’s event leading the JRi Shocks Rookie of the Year – presented by Dunn-Benson Ford points standings. Pierce leads Billy Moyer Jr. of Batesville, AR and Jason McBride of Carbondale, IL in the chase for the Rookie of the Year title.

The Show-Me 100 weekend will will start on Thursday, May 23^rd and concludes Saturday, May 25^th with the 100-lap $30,000 to win main event. Lucas Oil Speedway officials have added a $5,000 to win Lucas Oil MLRA sanctioned event for Thursday night, May 23^rd in place of the usual practice night for the Show-Me 100. With the added event on Thursday Night and all the activities for fans to enjoy, the 21^st Annual Lucas Oil Show-Me 100 – presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com is a must see event.

In addition to the $5,000 to win event on Thursday Night, Lucas Oil Speedway has added an additional $10,000 to the total purse and increased the start money to $1,500 for the Show-Me 100 feature event. Lucas Oil Speedway officials and the series officials are also excited to announce an added event to this year’s schedule, the Midwest Sheet Metal Show-Me Challenge. Racers that fail to make the Show-Me 100 feature event on Saturday Night through heat races or B-mains will get a chance to earn some extra money through this added race. The 20-lap Midwest Sheet Metal Non-Qualifiers race will pay $2,000 to win and $250 to start. Brady Smith Brilliant in Spring Shootout at LaSalle

LA SALLE, IL (May 11, 2013) – Brady Smith edged out fellow Wisconsin driver, Jimmy Mars by just a few inches at LaSalle Speedway on Saturday Night in winning the Jeff’s Enginemasters Spring Shootout. It was Smith’s first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win since 2008. Trailing Smith and Mars to the finish line in the $10,000 to win race was John Blankenship, Chris Simpson, and Don O’Neal.

“I have to thank Jimmy (Mars) for racing me clean that was quite a race, we are happy to be here in Lucas Oil victory lane. We haven’t been racing much this year, I had knee surgery back in March, and it took a while to recover from that,” said Smith. With the win Smith became the seventh different winner in eleven LOLMDS events in 2013.

Mars was seeking his first LOLMDS victory since the ’09 North/South 100 at Florence (KY) Speedway, but fell just short of the win. “Congratulations to Brady, I hope the fans enjoyed that race, to run 50-laps here without a yellow says something about the track and the drivers in this race. We got boxed in there behind another car and Brady was able to get around me. I thought that on the final lap, I was going to get him. I saw him slide up the track and he left and opening, but we came up just short.”

Blankenship was looking for his first win of the season, and watched the action in front of him in the closing laps. “I was hoping maybe they would get together and we could sneak by for the win, we gained some points tonight, those two had a great race for the lead, I had a good battle with (Chris) Simpson for the entire race it seemed like.”

Completing the top ten were Jimmy Owens, Eddie Carrier Jr., Brian Birkhofer, Steve Francis, and Randy Korte.

In preliminary action, Eddie Carrier Jr. set the overall Time (Group A) amongst the 38 entrants, with a lap of 13.679 seconds. Randy Korte set the fastest time in Group B with a time of 13.993 seconds. Brady Smith, John Blankenship, Don O’Neal, and Chris Simpson won their respective heat races. Kent Robinson and Brandon Sheppard won their respective B-Mains.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will make its next stop at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR for the 2nd Annual “Bad Boy 98” next week, from Thursday, May 16th with an Open Practice night and continue on Friday, May 17th, with RED BUCK Time Trials and Heat Races. Excitement Builds for Night Two at LaSalle, Mother Nature Wins Night One

La Salle, IL (May 10, 2013)- Night one of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Spring Shootout at LaSalle Speedway has been cancelled due to unsafe track conditions. With a more favorable forecast projected for tomorrow, the $10,000 to win show for Saturday Night will proceed as scheduled.

Despite a tireless effort by the Izzo Family to get the track into racing condition, officials of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and LaSalle Speedway made the decision to cancel Friday Night’s show. The area received heavy rain on Thursday Night and cloud cover all day on Friday, making the track unable to dry sufficiently.

“We hate it for the fans and drivers that came to the track on Friday, but the Izzo brothers worked and worked on the track to get it ready,” said Ritchie Lewis, Series Director of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. “The moisture kept coming back through the track surface despite the passionate efforts to get the track ready. With the combination of cloud-cover, no wind, and no sun on the track all day, we simply had to make the call to cancel tonight’s race. The track will be in good condition for tomorrow’s event, and we look forward to putting on a great show for the loyal fans in the area.”

WAYCROSS, GA (May 6, 2013) – The Spring Shootout will be bigger and better than ever this Friday and Saturday, May 10^th and 11^th at LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, IL. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series looks to double the excitement for fans this weekend. Both nights will include a complete show, packed with RED BUCK Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and $10,000 to win, $800 to start feature events. Over $80,000 in prize money will be up for grabs this weekend at LaSalle Speedway.

Excitement Building for 2nd Annual “Bad Boy 98” at Batesville Motor Speedway on May 16th-18th

WAYCROSS, GA (May 5, 2013) – The excitement is building for the 2nd Annual Bad Boy 98 set for May 16th,17th, and 18th at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR. This unique event will once again give race fans a chance to win a new car, just by attending the event. Track promoters Mooney and Connie Starr in association with Mark Martin Ford and Kia in Batesville, AR will award one lucky fan a new 2013 Kia Soul at this year’s event. Each race fan that attends the event will receive a special ticket at the main entrance to the grandstands for a random drawing on Saturday Night, May 18th. Track officials will draw out tickets and match a fan with each driver starting the Bad Boy 98 feature event. The fan that is matched with the winning driver of the event will win the brand new 2013 Kia Soul, compliments of Mark Martin Kia.

This year’s Bad Boy 98 sponsored by Bad Boy Mowers will pay racers $20,000 win and $1,200 to start the feature event. Activities will get underway on Thursday night with a special open practice session. Then, on Friday Night May 17th, there will be LOLMDS Hot Laps, RED BUCK Time Trials and heat races to set the starting field of the 2nd Annual Bad Boy 98. On Saturday Night May 18th, there will be a special autograph session for fans to meet all the stars of the LOLMDS as well as several top regional drivers from around the country. Following the autograph session, racers will get a chance to earn the final starting spots in the prestigious Bad Boy 98 feature event through the LOLMDS B-Mains. Once the starting field is set, track officials will draw tickets to match fans with each driver in the feature event for a chance to win the 2013 Kia Soul.

Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series May 4th Event at Paducah International Raceway Has Been Canceled

PADUCAH, KY (May 3, 2013) – Tomorrow's Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event scheduled at Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, KY has been canceled. With the upcoming predicted Friday Night & Saturday forecasts of heavy rain, an agreement has been reached between Paducah International Raceway and LOLMDS officials to cancel the event.

"We feel for all the great fans in the Midwest as we lost both events this weekend to rain. The weather has been difficult to say the least so far this year”, stated Series Director, Ritchie Lewis.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be back in action next weekend with two shows at the Izzo family promoted LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, IL. The weekend kicks off Friday Night May 10^th with a complete show with RED BUCK Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 50-Lap feature event paying $10,000 to win and $800 to start. Then on Saturday Night May 11^th the series returns to LaSalle Speedway for the second event of the double header at the ¼ mile bull ring with another complete show of RED BUCK Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 50-Lap feature, paying $10,000 to win and $800 to start.
