Proudly boasting as the Nations' Premier Dirt Late Model Sanctioning Organization the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in 2010 will sanction 41 events in 18 states. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, founded in 2005 receives national exposure through 10 taped-delayed Series Events that will be shown through the SPEED Channel and the VERSUS Network. SPEED Channel, the television home to motorsports enthusiasts is currently available to 70 million households in North America. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will also receive prime-time coverage of several tape-delayed events in 2010 on the VERSUS Network, which is home to outdoor enthusiasts and sports programming and is available to over 70 million households in North America.
Today's current Dirt Late Models feature steel constructed tube frame chassis with aluminum bodies that give them a sleek aerodynamic appearance of a race car; there is nothing stock about these 2300 pound machines. The cars are powered by an 800 horsepower motor that can turn in excess of 9,000 RPM's. The engines are based on V-8 Chevrolet, Ford and MOPAR power plants.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will sanction many traditional events in '10 with appearances for the first time at four different venues. Among those tracks hosting Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events for the very first time include; Beckley Motor Speedway in Mount Hope, WV; Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA; 34 Raceway in Burlington, IA; and Fonda Speedway in Fonda, NY. Other Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series race tracks that will host events include the “34th Annual DART Winternationals” at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL; the “Indiana Icebreaker” and “Jackson 100” at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN; “Spring Thaw 50” and “7th Annual Scorcher 100” at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN; “March Madness VIII” at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC; the “Bedford Valley Petroleum 50” at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, PA; the “29th Annual Stanley Schetrompf Classic” at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, MD; Paducah International Raceway in Paducah, KY; the “Spring Shootout” at LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, IL; the “18th Annual DART Show-Me 100” and the “4th Annual Diamond Nationals” at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO; the “Toyota of Knoxville 75” at Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN; the “Ralph Latham Memorial” and the “Sunoco Race Fuels North South 100 presented by Lucas Oil” at Florence Speedway in Union, KY; the “4th Annual Car Smart Race for Juvenile Diabetes” at Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, TN; the “Crenos 50” at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, OH; “Pepsi 75 River Days Rumble” at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, OH; the “Budweiser 50” at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, IL; the “Topless 100” at Batesville Speedway, in Batesville, AR.
Other highlights of the 2010 schedule include a visit to the Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY for the “Bluegrass Classic”, West Virginia Motor Speedway for the “42nd Annual Hillbilly Hundred”, Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA; and Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda, VA; the “Talladega Short Track Nationals” at Talladega Short Track in Talladega, AL; “Rome Rumble” at Rome International Speedway in Rome, GA; and the Lucas Oil “Dixie Shootout” at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA.
In 2009 the Series sanctioned 40 events at 25 different racetracks in 19 states. A total of 606 drivers entered at least one Series event with 22 different drivers winning an event on the Series tour. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series averaged 49.8 cars per event the highest of any touring Series in the country. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series also has 86 percent of the tracks that have hosted events in 2010 have hosted events in the five year history of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. A majority of the tracks that hosted events in 2009 will be on the slate again for '10.
