The 29th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil Products is Set for August 11-13 at Florence Speedway

WAYCROSS, GA (August 4, 2011) – The 29th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 Presented by Lucas Oil Products will be held at Florence Speedway in Union, KY on August 11th-13th. This event sanctioned by the LOLMDS is considered one of the biggest crown jewel events in dirt late model racing with the winner earning $50,000 and every racer that starts the feature will earn a minimum of $2500. 

The event is rapidly becoming a fan favorite with exciting racing action the past several years. The race has come down to the white flag lap the last two years with Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN taking the win a year ago over Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL.  The year before it was Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, WI in a thrilling finish on the last lap over Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN.

Activities will get underway on Thursday Night, August 11th with an open practice session with gates opening at 5 PM and practice lasting until 9 PM.  Then on Friday Night, August 12th it will be the Red Buck Cigars Time Trials for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with the fastest qualifier earning $500 from Red Buck Cigars. The weekend will conclude on Saturday Night, August 13th with six heat races with a three invert, B-Mains and the 100-lap main event with the winner pocketing a cool $50,000.

Jimmy Owens will come into the event not only as the defending race champion, but the current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship point’s leader.  Owens with four series wins this year leads two-time and defending series champion, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN by 140-points. 2011 Eldora Dirt Late Model Dream Winner, Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN is currently third in the series standings followed by Steve Francis of Ashland, KY and Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL.

Josh Williams of West Harrison, IN is the current Florence Speedway Late Model Points leader over Jesse Lay of Verona, KY, Robby Hensley of Walton, KY, Tim Prince of Heltonville, IN, and Jim Price from Salem, IN.

Before the racing action beings on Saturday Night, the 10th Annual National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductions will take place at 6 PM.  Those to be enshrined in this year’s class include:  Don Bohlander, William “Fats” Coffey, Kevin Gundaker, Bill Morgan, Rance Phillips, Ramo Stott, and Roscoe Smith.  Other contributors to be inducted include Joe Lee and Jean Johnson and special awards will be presented to Dale McDowell, Bub McCool and Jeep VanWormer.
