Series to Conclude 2010 Season this Weekend at Dixie and Rome

CORONA, CA (October 7, 2010) – The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will conclude its 2010 racing season this weekend with two events. On Saturday Night, October 9th, the series head to Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA for the Lucas Oil “Dixie Shootout”, and on Sunday Night, October 10th for the “Rome Showdown” at Rome Speedway in Rome, GA. Both events will pay $10,000 to win and $700 to start.
Lucas Oil Series competitor, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC is the defending Lucas Oil “Dixie Shootout” winner. The veteran driver scored his first win in the event, which has been held since 1990. There will be a complete show for the LOLMDS on Saturday Night at Dixie Speedway with Red Buck Cigar Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains and the 50-lap 21st Annual Lucas Oil “Dixie Shootout” main event. The final race of the year for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will this Sunday Night with a visit to Rome Speedway. Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN clinched the ’09 title with his only series win of the season a year ago at Rome. There will be a complete show for the LOLMDS at Rome Speedway including Red Buck Cigar Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains and the $10,000 to win “Rome Showdown” main event. Bloomquist is in position to wrap-up the 2010 season championship for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Bloomquist heads into this weekend’s final events of the year holding a 260-point lead over Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN. Bloomquist and Owens lead the series victory list with eight wins each. Bloomquist captured the last Lucas Oil Series win back on September 24th at Brownstown (IN) Speedway in the Jackson 100. The victory marked the 500th win of his Hall of Fame career.
Owens is trying to secure the runner-up spot in Lucas Oil Championship Points for the second consecutive year. He holds a 50-point advantage over 4-time series champion, Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL. There is also a tight battle for fourth and fifth place as Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN is in front of Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC by a mere 10-points heading into this weekend.
The remainder of the top ten include; Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA; Chris Wall of Springfield, LA; John Blankenship of Williamson, WV; Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN; and Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI.
Wall is leading the Quarter Master Rookie of the Year Standings by 220 points over Eric Wells of Hazard, KY. Tim Isenberg of Marshfield, WI is third in the rookie chase.
The tire rule for the weekend will be the same at both Dixie and Rome; Hoosier 1300 or any compound harder – 1300 must punch a minimum of 40. American Racer SD44 or any compound harder – SD44 must punch a minimum of 40.
