Jimmy Owens Extends Lead in the Applinacezone.com Points Standings after Big Win at Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100

CORONA, CA (August 18, 2010) – Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN, extended his lead in the special Appliancezone.com point’s category after winning this past weekends 28th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 Presented by Lucas Oil. In front of a capacity crowd at Florence Speedway, Jimmy passed Earl Pearson Jr. on lap 98 of the 100-lap race to win the prestigious event and the $50,000 first place prize money. All five drivers competing in the Appliancezone.com contest made the starting field for the Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 feature event this past weekend. The eligible drivers included Jimmy Owens (1st), Don O’Neal (3rd), Ray Cook (5th), Chris Wall (18th), and Steve Casebolt (24th).
Five LOLMDS drivers selected by Appliancezone.com are competing for the $70,000 primary sponsorship for the 2011-racing season. Jimmy Owens, Ray Cook, Don O’Neal, Chris Wall, and Steve Casebolt all are trying to win this unique contest, which is based on track performance (points earned), fan voting on a special website www.appliancezoneracing.com, and by a special panel vote from members of the media, Lucas Oil and NASCAR drivers Clint Boyer and Bobby Labonte.
Jimmy has won three out of the five events since the contest began on July 17th at Lucas Oil Speedway. Jimmy has a narrow 35-point lead over Ray Cook in the special point’s category. Not only did Jimmy Owens win the feature event but also garnered the most fan votes from fans that voted during the event at the Appliancezone.com booth. Chris Wall leads the fan-voting portion of the contest with a slim lead over Steve Casebolt.
