Tennessee Tripleheader Awaits Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series this Week

CORONA, CA (June 14, 2010) – After taking a weekend off, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is back in action this week, with three events in the state of Tennessee. The first will be a visit to Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, TN on Thursday Night, June 17th for the 4th Annual Car Smart “Race for the Cure” for Juvenile Diabetes. The next event is the two-day dual 50-Lap “Scorcher 100” at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN on Friday and Saturday, June 18th and 19th.

There will be a complete show for each of the three nights with Red Buck Cigar Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains and the $10,000 to win/$700 to start feature events.

Thursday Night will mark the second appearance of the LOLMDS at the Monty Morrow-promoted Cleveland Speedway. The track will host a special Car Smart “Race for the Cure” for Juvenile Diabetes 50-Lap event. Last year in the series’ initial visit to the track, Jake Knowles of Tyrone, GA won his first ever Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event. This was also the biggest win of Knowles’ racing career.

The stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will make its second appearance of the season at Volunteer Speedway. The famed high-banks will host the “Scorcher 100” as two one-day 50-Lap shows. The winner each night will earn $10,000 each night.  Originally the format was a two-day $20,000 to win program.  Back in March Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC captured the LOLMDS sanctioned “Spring Thaw 50” at “The Gap”.

Reigning Series Champion, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN currently holds the lead in the chase for the 2010 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Championship.  The title is worth $75,000 again this year. Currently, Bloomquist is leading fellow Tennessean, Jimmy Owens of Newport by 150 points heading into the weekend.  Behind Bloomquist and Owens is four-time LOLMDS National Champion, Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN; and 2010 DART Show-Me 100 winner, Ray Cook.

The remainder of the top ten going into this week at Cleveland and Bulls Gap are Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA; Steve Casebolt of Richmond, IN; Chris Wall of Holden, LA; Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, WI; and Eric Wells of Hazard, KY.

Wall still maintains his lead in the Quarter Master “Rookie of the Year” points’ battle; currently 70 points ahead of Wells.  Tim Isenberg of Marshfield, WI is third in the RoY chase.

This past weekend, several Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series drivers participated in the Dirt Late Model Dream XVI at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH.  The top thirteen drivers in Lucas Oil Championship Points for the LOLMDS were on hand to battle for the sport’s richest prize of $100,000 to win. Ten LOLMDS drivers made the starting grid for the event, which was held Sunday afternoon.  

The final results showed that six of the ten Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series starters finished in the top ten. Ray Cook finished second behind winner Billy Moyer.  Cook earned $20,000 for his runner-up finish. Dale McDowell took home $10,000 for finishing third in the famed-event.

Defending Series Champion, Scott Bloomquist was fifth. Don O’Neal, who had to race his way from the C-Main to the B-main came home in seventh, followed by 2009 LOLMDS Quarter Master Rookie of the Year, John Blankenship, who finished eighth.  Dan Schlieper rounded out the top ten for the Lucas Oil Series contingent.

Other series drivers who the made the starting grid for the race Dream included Brad Neat who finished 12th; Steve Casebolt, who finished 14th; Mike Marlar wound up 18th; and Jimmy Owens, the defending race winner finished 24th after dropping out of the event.

The tire rule for all three events will be the same at both Cleveland and Volunteer Speedways; American Racer SD 44 or any compound harder, SD 44 must punch a minimum of 40; Hoosier 1300 or any compound harder, 1300 must punch a minimum of 40.
